This is from Charles Ryries' book  'A Survey of Bible Doctrine'. "My own definition of biblical inspiration is that it is God's superintendence of the human authors so that, using their own individual personalities, they composed and recorded without error His revelation to man in the words of the original autographs."

Re: Further Definition

Perhaps the following from Lewis Sperry Chafer's Systematic Theology, vol. 7 on inspiration defines why we are seeing so many errant doctrines creep into the church:

"Men of serious mind have sought to prove the authoritative character of the Scriptures by declaring that only some parts are inspired; but this approach leaves to man the responsibility of determining how much is inspired, and man indeed may as well be sole author of the text if he can pass such a discriminating judgment.

No progress has ever been made in formulating doctrine from the Bible when men have doubted the inspiration of the Scriptures in all its parts."
