Quotes for the Heart
In the routine of our lives we often look for adventure. Some fullfill that desire by watching a movie, a TV program or reading a mystery novel. Others find it through mountain climbing, skin diving or indulging in car racing. But for the Christian, there is no greater adventure than walking in obedience to Jesus Christ.
My husband shared some quotes with me yesterday from a message, For the Sake of the Gospel by Allister Begg that was aired on his radio program. Not only were these quotes inspiring but also the lives of the men who spoke them. They experienced great adventure as they lived in obedience to Him.
CT Studd at the age of 53 after serving as a missionary in China and India on his way to Africa said, "If Jesus Christ be God and died for me, then no sacrifice that I can ever make for Him can ever be too great." His doctors tried to prevent him from going to Africa as his health was so bad. He also said, "Let us not slide through this world and slip quietly into heaven without having blown the trumpet loud and long for our Redeemer Jesus Christ. Let us see to it that the devil will hold a thanksgiving service in Hell when he gets the news of our departure from the field of battle."
Charles Simeom in 1782 started his ministry at Holy Trinity Church in Cambridge, England. He faced tremendous opposition. After 25 years his health failed and he continued to preach 13 more years. At the age of 60 he planned to quit. Taking a rest, he traveled to Scotland. As he crossed the border, God revived his strength in such a way he described it was like the woman who touched the hem of Jesus's garment. God spoke to his heart, not winding it down, but winding it up! He continued to preach 17 more years, up to 2 months before he died. He said, "Shall I not run with all my might now that I have the finishing line in view!"
Let us live our lives in obedience to Him and experience His great adventure He has for us.
"...let us run with endurance the race that is set before." (Heb:12:1Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares [us,] and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,b)
