The Total Depravity of Man
We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God; but that in Adam’s sin the human race fell, inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God. Man is totally depraved and, of himself, utterly unable to remedy his lost condition. (Gen:1:26-27 [26] Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."
[27] So God created man in His [own] image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
; Rom:3:22-23 [22] even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference;
[23] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
; Rom:5:12Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned --; Rom:6:23For the wages of sin [is] death, but the gift of God [is] eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.; Eph:2:1-3 [1] And you [He made alive,] who were dead in trespasses and sins,
[2] in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,
[3] among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.
; Eph:4:17-19 [17] This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind,
[18] having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart;
[19] who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
